  • General Summary

    The Business Development Assistant position is responsible for a wide variety of administrative duties supporting the marketing and business development initiatives of Alston & Bird’s Los Angeles office. This position will also support the Silicon Valley and San Francisco offices as requested. The ideal candidate has law firm experience, is detail oriented, and has excellent communication and follow-up skills. The ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment is essential, as is the ability to multi-task and prioritize. Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial (spelling, grammar, writing skills, etc.). Working knowledge of legal terms and concepts are a plus. The position will report to the Senior Business Development Manager in California and work closely with the Senior Business Development Coordinator.

    Essential Duties

    Pitches and Proposals

    • Prepare marketing materials as requested by attorneys and/or staff
    • Oversee print production, assembly, and ensure on-time delivery of high-quality materials
    • Enter RFP and pitch materials into proposal database

    Website

    • Work with attorneys and firm editor to revise/update attorney web bios

    Tickets and Inventory

    • Enter sports ticket usage into online Concierge program
    • Maintain promo item inventory; track usage in Inflow database

    Marketing Communications

    • Assist legal administrative assistants with InterAction database updates
    • Assist the business development team by creating lists and pulling reports

    Research

    • Work with the Library to fulfill research requests
    • Utilize department resources for additional research needs

    Event Support

    • Submit graphic design requests and collaborate with graphics team on projects, including advertisements, invitations, etc.
    • Assist with all event logistics: track RSVPs, create name badges and tent cards, set-up and staff registration desk, and prepare handouts for client functions

    Submissions

    • Assist with drafting various award submissions

    Administrative Support

    • Set up and maintain Business Development folders and files
    • Create and submit check requests; assist with processing payments

    Communication with the Senior Business Development Manager and Senior Business Development Coordinator is of utmost importance. Weekly project status updates are required, as well as key information updates more frequently if necessary/requested.

    Skills Needed to be Successful

    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

    • Proficiency in online research and internet resources
    • Knowledge of marketing principles, procedures, concepts, and practical applications
    • Fundamental knowledge of Interaction (preferred)
    • Working knowledge of legal concepts
    • Ability to effectively interact with lawyers
    • Advanced proficiency in the English language, including punctuation, spelling, grammar, and writing skills

    Additional Information

    Education and Experience Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree (Communication, Advertising, Marketing degree preferred)
    • At least 2 years of professional services/law firm experience (preferred)
