    Alston & Bird has an exciting, entry-level opportunity for a driven individual to break into the in-demand field of IP Patent Prosecution.  Our IP Clerks are resourceful, flexible and eager to learn. In this role, you will provide a wide-range of support to a busy IP law practice while being trained in various aspects of IP.  Many of our experienced staff members started as clerks and we are looking for individuals who want to grow with us.  Alston & Bird is seeking an individual with attention to detail, the ability to multitask and proven aptitude to quickly learn new applications and processes.

    Essential Duties

    • Preparing and submitting New Matter Requests via Elite Worklist and opening new files
    • Processing incoming Office Actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, including: Printing working copies of an office action for attorney use; Retrieving cited references using PatentHunter, PAIR, or espacenet; Saving references to Desksite; Preparing draft reporting letters to the client; Preparing draft amendments; Preparing copies of currently pending claims; Reviewing office actions for acknowledged 1449’s
    • Reviewing and reporting filing receipts and assignment recordations; preparing and filing corrected application papers and assignments
    • Assisting paralegals with preparation of Information Disclosure statements, including gathering references for submission to US Patent Office, updating matrixes, saving and coding emails
    • Preparing reporting letters/emails to clients regarding foreign filing and converting provisional applications
    • Ordering certified copies of applications, patents, or assignments from the US Patent Office
    • Preparing and sending reporting letters to clients reporting the filing of applications and amendments 3
    • Managing client-specific correspondence portals
    • Assisting attorneys and staff with special client requests and projects as needed

    Skills Needed to be Successful

    • General knowledge of Intellectual Property foreign patent prosecution procedures;

    • Works as a team member and shows respect for co-workers;

    • Commitment to providing superior customer service;

    • Ability to interact effectively with people at all levels of the firm;

    • Advanced knowledge of PC applications, including the entire suite of MS Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

    • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

    • 1+ year of patent docketing and/or prosecution administration experience.
