General Summary

The Atlanta office is currently seeking a Staff Accountant. You will support the Firm’s Senior Accountants and Accounting Controller in a variety of tasks.  You are critical to ensure the accuracy of transactions and any related reporting. As an analytical thinker you must be willing to work as part of a collaborative team and take ownership of assigned projects and duties. Your role will have visibility to several firm expenses and processes and must have the utmost level of composure when dealing with delicate and sensitive information.

Essential Duties

  • Prepare both U.S. and international general ledger entries (including recurring entries) and maintain the appropriate supporting documentation for the entries.
  • Perform account analysis and reconcile various general leger accounts.
  • Assist with the Firm’s US and international banking transactions and reporting. Record journal entries related to banking transactions.  Respond to inquiries re: bank balances, transactions, bank fees, etc.  Enter ACH and wire information into the Firm’s banking portal.  Assist with the administration of various bank websites and users.  Backup Senior Accountant as needed.
  • Assist with the Firm’s daily trust accounting. Prepare journal entries, check deposits, payment requests, etc.  Assist with the Firm’s monthly and annual trust reporting.  Research trust rules and document procedures, when requested.  Backup Senior Accountant as needed.
  • Upload fixed asset transactions in the Firm’s fixed asset software. Record depreciation on a monthly basis and assist with fixed asset reports, as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of reports for financial statements, surveys and tax filings. Complete Firm government surveys, as requested.
  • Assist, as needed, with analysis and reporting of general ledger balances against budget.   
  • Respond to inquiries and prepare reports related to the Firm’s Amex program.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and documentation of accounting processes and procedures. Assist in maintaining the Firm’s accounting controls.
  • Respond to various accounting inquiries from attorneys, LAAs and other staff departments, as needed.
  • Support the Finance Department with special projects, as needed.

Skills Needed to be Successful

  • In-depth understanding of Accounting Principles and financial statements
  • Awareness of business trends
  • Advanced MS Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables
  • Accuracy and attention to detail and deadlines
  • Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 2-3 years’ experience as an Accountant, preferably at mid-size to large Firm
  • BS degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field preferred
  • Relevant certification (e.g. CMA or CPA) preferred
